Maximianus, first reign, 286-305. Aureus (Gold, 21 mm, 5.30 g, 12 h), Cyzicus, 286-287. IMP C M A MAXIMIANVS AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Maximianus to right. Rev. VIRTVTI HERCVLIS / SC✱ Hercules standing front, head to right, holding his right hand behind his back and leaning left on club set on rock; lion's skin draped over club. Antike Kunst (1967), 512 (this coin). Calicó 4758a corr. (this coin, but bust misdescribed as draped only). Cohen -. Depeyrot 6/4. RIC 605 var. (no star in exergue). A well struck example with a particularly powerful rendering of Hercules. Extremely fine.
